This course takes an in-depth look at sexual harassment in the workplace, specifically tailored for dental teams.
Aims
This course aims to educate dental team members about the various forms of sexual harassment, its impact on individuals and workplace culture, and the legal frameworks that protect employees.
Objectives
During this course you will be able to:
- Define sexual harassment and understand its various forms, including quid pro quo and hostile work environment.
- Identify the signs of sexual harassment and recognise inappropriate behaviour in the workplace.
- Explain the legal framework surrounding sexual harassment, including relevant laws such as the Equality Act 2010, and understand the rights of employees and responsibilities of employers.
- Discuss the emotional, psychological, and professional impacts of sexual harassment on individuals and workplace culture.
- Outline the procedures for reporting harassment, including internal and external options, and the importance of documentation.
- Demonstrate bystander intervention techniques and promote open communication among colleagues to foster a respectful workplace culture.
- Develop strategies to create and maintain a safe and respectful work environment by encouraging training, education, and support within the dental team.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course the learner will gain an understanding of:
- Articulate the definition of sexual harassment and distinguish between its various forms, such as quid pro quo and hostile work environment.
- Recognise and identify signs of sexual harassment and describe examples of inappropriate behaviour in the workplace.
Explain the key legal protections against sexual harassment, including the Equality Act 2010, and articulate the rights of employees and the obligations of employers. - Analyse the effects of sexual harassment on individuals' emotional and psychological well-being and the overall workplace culture, including its impact on productivity and employee retention.
- Detail the steps for reporting harassment effectively, including the importance of documentation and the available internal and external resources for support.
- Apply bystander intervention techniques in hypothetical scenarios to address inappropriate behaviour and promote a culture of respect within the dental team.
- Propose actionable strategies to foster a safe and respectful work environment, including the implementation of ongoing training and the encouragement of open dialogue among team members.
