This training course is specifically tailored for non-clinical staff. If you are a clinical dental team member, such as a dentist or dental care professional, we recommend completing P368 Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk Level 2. This advanced level course includes the information covered in the Level 1 course."
All members of the dental team must be trained in safeguarding and understand their professional responsibilities set out by the General Dental Council (GDC), Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Health Inspectorate Wales.
This Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk level 1 course is designed for non-clinical staff, for example, receptionists and practice managers.
The course aims to equip you with a comprehensive understanding of legislation and guidance related to safeguarding up to level 1. You will learn to recognise signs of neglect, abuse, or harm and understand their professional responsibilities. Emphasising the importance of effective safeguarding measures, and will outline essential practice protocols and procedures to ensure the protection of patients against harm or abuse.

- Reference laws and guidance for safeguarding children and adults at risk.
- Outline GDC, CQC, and HIW standards and competencies related to safeguarding.
- Describe local multi-agency arrangements for safeguarding.
- Define criteria for identifying children or adults at risk and recognize potential abusers.
- Understand the concept of a 'Looked After Child' and its implications.
- Recognise signs of neglect, harm, and abuse.
- Discuss the detrimental effects of neglect, harm, and abuse on a child's development.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of the dental team in safeguarding.
- Know the specific duties of the designated safeguarding lead in the dental setting.
- Ensure the dental team is equipped to raise and refer safeguarding concerns appropriately and in a timely manner.
