About This Course

Obtaining valid consent is fundamental to patient care, serving both ethical and legal responsibilities. The General Dental Council (GDC) mandates it, but its significance extends beyond regulations, protecting clinicians from potential legal or even criminal liabilities.

With recent legal cases shaping the landscape of informed consent, clinicians often face uncertainties about what should or shouldn’t be included in discussions with patients. This presentation, by Prateek, will explore the process and provide clear, practical guidance to help you be confident that a valid consent has been obtained, and learn how courts evaluate whether consent was adequately obtained.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the issues relating to obtaining valid consent prior to provision of any treatment.
